Manchester United could sign both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez from Premier League rivals Arsenal before the start of next season, according to the Machester Evening News.
The Reds have been suddenly linked with 29-year-old Alexis in recent days, who was expected to go to title rivals Manchester City either this month or in the summer when his contract at the Emirates runs out.
The Chilean has been wanted by Man City for some time now, and came close to a summer move. He’s been linked with Man United occasionally, but not seriously. However, with City only willing to pay £20m in January and considering waiting until the summer, United could swoop in with an offer of over £30m and secure an early transfer.
Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a reunion with attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil, also 29, who he coached while at Real Madrid.
M.E.N Sport suggest that United are the only other Premier League side other than Arsenal that Ozil would play for. Like Sanchez, his contract is also up at the end of the season leaving Mourinho to take his former-man on a free transfer.
It’s a catastrophic situation for Arsenal with two of their best players out of contract at the same time and seemingly neither interested in extending their stay at the club. They’ll also get far less money, if any, for both players than they would have done had they sold the pair in the summer.
United taking both from the Emirates would be a stunning piece of Premier League history and could prove to be the final nail in the coffin for Arsene Wenger in the eyes of some Gooners.
