Steve Nicol: Danny Rose to Manchester United will happen in the summer

by Marwan Harraz

Steve Nicol has claimed that Tottenham star Danny Rose is likely to move to Manchester United in the summer rather than in the winter as reports seemed to suggest.

The Red Devils’ interest in the England international has been well documented as the club aimed to finally solve a widely known problem area.

Some fans have argued that the left-back position hasn’t been properly filled since when favourite Patrice Evra left Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw was soon bought by United from Southampton but has failed to lock down the position since then with rumours of Jose Mourinho losing patience.

Nicol believes Rose will move to the club but not in this transfer window and has claimed it will cost Mourinho quite a bit of money.

According to Daily Star, Steve said on ESPN: “This is one that I can see happening. Tottenham have got enough cover, the likes of (Serge) Aurier, (Kieran) Trippier, (Ben) Davies.

“Again it will take a Kyle Walker-type money, £50m, to get him. But I think Manchester United will pay that amount of money and I think this will happen.

“Again, I don’t see it happening now but I think in the summer, I think this is a hit.”

The pundit’s claim is a little unusual given recent development in the story that have claimed that Manchester United have moved on from the player.

Reports have suggested that the Old Trafford hierarchy aren’t convinced with Danny due to his recent injury issues and have given Jose alternatives to sign.

The club have since turned their attention to Celtic’s Kieran Tierney as a younger option to sign who would provide Shaw competition and would be cheaper.

However, there has been even further developments since with some reports claiming that Jose Mourinho has actually been convinced by Luke’s performances in recent matches.

The young Englishman has taken over a suspended Ashley Young and has impressed with some solid displays that has left the Portuguese manager willing to give him another chance.
