Manchester United legend Andy Cole has joined a host of other former stars for the club in agreeing that Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez would represent a major signing for the team.
The Chilean has been heavily linked with the Red Devils in recent days as it appears all but certain that he will indeed be leaving the London club.
Fierce rivals Manchester City are believed to be the only ones battling it out with United for his signature, despite the player being available for free in the summer.
Both Manchester clubs are attempting to beat their competitors to the punch by signing Sanchez in the open January transfer window.
Cole believes that the player’s credentials prove that he’d be a top signing for his former club especially given the statement it would make.
According to Retro United, Andy said to Sky Sports: “If Manchester United bought Sanchez it would be a major, major signing, We all know what he did at Arsenal, Barcelona and before that Udinese.
“We appreciate what a good player he is. He’ll have the choice of a lot of clubs and, if United could get him, it would be a massive signing.”
Alexis Sanchez does tick a box on Manchester United’s transfer list as Jose Mourinho previously publicly stated the club’s need to sign a winger in the summer.
The last transfer window ended with the Red Devils unable to fulfil a deal after suffering various factors in their other targets.
Antoine Griezmann, Gareth Bale and Ivan Perisic were all linked with United but none managed to complete a transfer to Old Trafford.
Griezmann decided to remain loyal to his club after they received a transfer ban, Bale was seemingly promised match time by Zinedine Zidane and Perisic’s price tag was set at an unbelievable price.
Mourinho’s other transfers during the window also meant he spent most of his budget and had to unfortunately make due without a natural winger for most of the season, until possibly now.
