3 chances created, 4 take-ons: Paul Pogba continues fantastic form against Burnley

by Harry Robinson

Paul Pogba was incredibly influential for Manchester United in Saturday afternoon’s 1-0 win against Burnley in the Premier League.

The Frenchman frustrated Man United fans at times with his consistent, unnecessary fouling that handed Burnley chances on a plate, and also with his attitude to not being given decisions, but was impressive on the ball.

Pogba has developed an unwanted habit of throwing his arms up and stopping playing when a decision goes against him, rather than trying to work and get the ball back. But he was at his usual game for most of Saturday afternoon, creating three chances.

Pogba has been in fantastic form recently. Manager Jose Mourinho moved him back to his regular position in a central midfield pairing with Nemanja Matic at Turf Moor due to the challenge of Burnley.

In the prior two Premier League fixtures, the Frenchman had been played slightly further forward than usual, particularly against Everton away at Goodison Park on New Year’s Day, where he was Man of the Match after a world-class performance on the left of a three-man midfield.

He was also Man of the Match against Stoke City on Monday night in a 3-0 victory where he grabbed two assists to take his total for the season up to nine.

Playing further forward gives him far more freedom and license to use his stunning technical ability while not having to focus so much on his defensive responsibilities.

Hopefully Mourinho will continue to give Pogba the opportunity to play there in future weeks, though a better midfielder than Ander Herrera to play as the third man in the midfield is required.
