Manchester United fans were not happy with Juan Mata‘s performance vs Burnley in the Premier League as Jose Mourinho’s side edged out 1-0 winners.
The attacking midfielder was forced out wide once more onto the right wing and his inability in the position showed once more.
Not a winger by trade, Mata roamed around the pitch freely, often leaving Antonio Valencia isolated when moving forward.
The Spaniard hasn’t had the best of seasons so far given how he’s performed in the past and with Alexis Sanchez on the brink of completing the move to Old Trafford, it’s his position that’s under threat the most.
Supporters love Juan who is certainly a fan-favourite but if he doesn’t step up his performances he could quickly become a forgotten man.
Unfortunately for Mata, he just does not possess the speed to be effective down the right. Much better as the number 10. I’m looking forward to seeing Martial and Sánchez on either wing with Lukaku through the middle. Exciting!

Henrikh Mkhitaryan's spirit lives on at United through Juan Mata. Having a shocker today.

Sanchez coming in after a win is a great boost. Clear after that game that he will come in and permanently bench Mata. Martial different level, no ones benching him this season now. #mufc

Mata increasingly feels like one of those people they get to fill seats at the Oscars. Just waiting for Sanchez to come and take it

Sanchez is walking into this team – Mata and especially Rashford have been below par. #mufc

Henrikh Mkhitaryan also got a run in the position in the early stages of the campaign but the former Real Madrid man hasn’t had a real opportunity there since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s recent success in a 4-3-3 formation has also seen the club play without an attacking midfielder at all, leaving no hope for Mata.
Although he has insisted he’s happy at United, one will surely question how long it is before his minutes are limited again and he asks to leave as he did at Chelsea.
