Alexis Sanchez: I don’t mind what position I play at Manchester United

Alexis Sanchez has insisted that he’s comfortable anywhere on the pitch after joining Manchester United.

The Chilean, despite having an agreement with Manchester City earlier this month, officially joined Manchester United in a straight swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan on Monday night.

His hotly anticipated arrival, which seemed almost impossible less than two weeks ago, now presents a difficult question: where does he play and who, if anyone, misses out?

And Sanchez, when asked about his expected role at Old Trafford, made it clear that he would happily play anywhere in attack.

“I’m a player who likes to win everything. I’m very professional in everything I do,” he said.

“I live for football. I love football. It’s what I’m passionate about. I train hard every day and after a game I try to look at what went well and where I can improve.

“I really like to play down the left, through the middle, but to tell you the truth, as long as I’m playing football, I’ll fit in anywhere!”

Sanchez will play wherever because, above anything, he just wants to be out there on the pitch, the ball at his feet, making life hell for anybody who dares to come near him. Where exactly that is doesn’t concern him.

But as the stat below demonstrates, Sanchez equally doesn’t mind where he plays because, well, he does damage in every attacking position.

Mourinho wanted a wide man, a striker capable of sharing the load with Romelu Lukaku, and a ‘magician’ forward capable of manipulating the ball in tight spaces going forward ahead of the summer. And in signing Sanchez he has, to a degree, ticked all of those boxes.
