Alexis Sanchez is the perfect player for Manchester United, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.
In a rare player-swap deal between two major European clubs, Sanchez will join the Reds as Henrikh Mkhitaryan goes the other way and signs for Arsenal.
His deal at the Emirates had been set to expire in the summer, and Man United have swooped ahead of their competitors to sign him. He had been expected to sign for cross-city title rivals Manchester City either this month or in the summer on a free transfer.
But he fits the profile of a United player perfectly, Redknapp suggested.
“Some players are born to play for Manchester United and Alexis Sanchez is one of them,” Redknapp said, writing in the Daily Mail.
“He can handle the pressure that comes with being part of this club. Sanchez is a warrior who is blessed with incredible talent.”
“Manchester United are going to be a real force in the next couple of years. The fans will love him. Manchester United have a rich tradition of explosive, exciting forwards. Sanchez has a never-say-die ethic and will elevate training.”
It’s the perfect summary of just why very few United fans are worrying about Sanchez not fitting the club.
His mentality is one of his best attributes and that winning mentality will hopefully rub off on the rest of the squad.
Sanchez could even fill the Eric Cantona-role of guiding a young squad towards their first successes. Even United’s current key players are young, with Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Eric Bailly all under 25.
