Manchester United will rival Chelsea in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal next summer, according to reports.
The Chile international was a key target for Louis van Gaal back in the summer of 2014 but no deal ever materialised and he joined Bayern a year later.
But the arrival of Leon Goretzka to the Allianz Arena this month has paved the way for potential suitors to make a bid for the 30-year-old, who will be allowed to leave in the summer.
And according to Football London, Man United will do battle with Chelsea over the summer for Vidal’s signature as Jose Mourinho’s searches for a Michael Carrick replacement.
Antonio Conte may have the upper hand over Mourinho this time around given his past relationship with the midfielder during his time as Juventus boss, but we should know by now to never rule out the 55-year-old’s capacity for pinching players from under the noses of his biggest rivals.
And the Italian, who only has one win to his name (against Norwich on penalties) since Mourinho got in his head, may find himself frustrated by the Chelsea board once again over the summer if he asks for yet another midfielder. Surely Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley and an ageing Cesc Fabregas is enough, Antonio?
