Tahith Chong’s stock rose dramatically on Monday night after the 18-year-old produced a dazzling display on his debut for the Manchester United Under-23s.
The Dutchman, who plays as an attacking midfielder, joined Man United from Feyenoord back in 2016 and has been working with the Under 18s ever since.
But he was promoted to the Reserves on Monday night and, despite his side losing 3-1, dazzled Old Trafford with an incisive, driven attacking display, netting Man United’s only goal in the second half as he bullishly latched onto a lazy pass before sliding past the keeper.
Here is a highlight reel of the youngster’s superb performance – a potential catalyst for an assault on the first team this season?

Angel Gomes did a good job announcing himself against Yeovil Town with a sharp cameo last week, but all eyes were diverted towards Chong a few days later as the teenager took centre stage with an ebullient showing on the ball.
His confidence and sheer will to drive forward is there for all to see. Chong normally operates as a right winger but tends to drift towards the ball in an attempt to make things happen, combining raw strength with dazzling footwork to break past opponents.
He was by some distance United’s best player, and supporters will hope to see him – along with Angel Gomes, who was also promoted to the Reserves this year – receive further chances under Ricky Spragia and possibly even Jose Mourinho this season.
