Jose Mourinho identifies Arturo Vidal as midfield target in the summer – report

Jose Mourinho has identified Bayern Munich midfielder and former Manchester United target Arturo Vidal as a primary option ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The 55-year-old admitted following the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur that he would prioritise making midfield reinforcements in the summer amid fears Marouane Fellaini will leave along with Michael Carrick, who will join the coaching staff.

Man United’s interest in Vidal is nothing new; Louis van Gaal spent a large portion of the 2014 summer trying to lure him away from Juventus.

And according to M.E.N‘s James Robson, Mourinho has identified Vidal as the ideal midfield target as he looks to add greater maturity to the core of his side.

Of all the midfield names Man United have been linked with this season – Jorginho, Leander Dendoncker, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Carlos Soler, Fabinho, Jean Michael Seri – the Chilean is without doubt the most esteemed name of them all.

He is a seasoned trophy winner and Champions League regular, used in a variety of roles but mainly in a midfield trio, bullishly going after players and driving play forward – kind of like what Ander Herrera did last season, only with more bite going forward.

And with Leon Goretzka’s arrival from Schalke over January reducing the need for Bayern to keep the , this could be a saga worth keeping an eye on – again.
