Frank Lampard: Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United at risk

by Marwan Harraz

Former Chelsea legend and pundit Frank Lampard has thrown Marcus Rashford‘s future at Manchester United up in the air.

The young England international has been out of the starting XI for a little while now, concerning fans who wish to see him develop into the world class player he has the potential to be.

After a good start to the season Rashford has seen his form slip and has lost his spot to in form Anthony Martial who has impressed in recent weeks.

Although supporters are obviously happy for the Frenchman, Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal has sparked further concerns on the academy product’s game time.

Lampard believes there will come a time where a decision has to be made on Marcus’ future so that his development doesn’t go to waste.

According to the Sport Review, Frank said to BT Sport: “We can’t keep saying that every player they bring in that Rashford has to learn from him.

“He’s a young, developing player of course, but at some point you want him to get his nose in this team and be a regular goal-scorer and creator.

“It’s not easy, and you wonder what the long-term picture is for Marcus Rashford.”

Some keen fans have pointed to Marcus Rashford‘s huge involvement in the first team squad as the possible reason to his poor form.

Suggestions of burn-out seem to make sense since the youngster has been one of Jose Mourinho’s go to players throughout the season.

However, the possible cause of his unconvincing displays could simply be put down to his age given that younger stars tend to go through inconsistent periods in the early stages of their careers.

Supporters tend to forget that Rashford is still only 20 years old and is bound to go through spurts of inconsistency until he matures.

A rest though is perhaps needed more though and some time away from the spot light may do him some good, letting Alexis Sanchez feel the brunt of the pressure instead.
