Justin Kluivert plays down talk of Manchester United move in the summer

Ajax youngster Justin Kluivert has played down talk of joining Manchester United, insisting he knew as much about the rumours than anyone else.

Jose Mourinho supposedly told Kluivert following the Europa League final that he wanted to sign him in the summer of 2018 and reports emerged last week suggesting Man United were lining up a £10m deal to sign the 18-year-old.

But Kluivert has since dismissed the prospect of moving to Old Trafford at the moment and Mourinho recently told the media that he wouldn’t make attacking signings in the summer.

And the youngster, speaking on Dutch radio, reiterated that he knew nothing about a potential move to Old Trafford.

“There will always be rumours, but not all is true,” he said. “I know as little as you guys do.”

Perhaps that animated conversation between Mourinho and Kluivert caught on cameras in Stockholm wasn’t as revelatory as we would all like to think. There is a chance, after all, that the 55-year-old was just reminding him of what a talent he was and left it at that.

Even so, the main priority for Kluivert at the moment is minutes on the pitch, and he certainly wouldn’t receive enough of that at Old Trafford just yet.
