Jorges Mendes exploring possibility of Manchester United move for Justin Kluivert

Jorges Mendes has asked whether Justin Kluivert is ready to play for a “top European club” next season, according to Ajax scout Guido Friedrich.

The 18-year-old, son of Patrick, has reportedly piqued Manchester United’s interest with a series of scintillating performances on the left hand side over the past year.

Kluivert himself, along with his father, has dismissed talk of a move away from Amsterdam this summer but noted he was open to the prospect of moving to Old Trafford further down the line.

But Friedrich, speaking earlier this week, has claimed that Mendes – who has a strong relationship with Jose Mourinho – was sizing up the possibility of arranging a move for him in the summer.

“Kluivert has good moments and I think he is a top talent, but Mendes has sometimes asked me if he is already ready for the absolute top European club,” he told voetbalzone .

“I do not think so. I said, certainly not as number 11. To play for the top clubs, you have to play well every week. ”

The consensus from Kluivert’s camp roundly claims, quite rightly, that the 18-year-old is not ready to be released onto the big stage just yet.

His talent is there for all to see: nimble, devastatingly quick, precise with his passing in the final third, extremely skilful, oozing confidence and natural talent.

But to apply that at the highest level on a regular basis is no walk in the park, and Kluivert will no doubt feel like he needs more minutes under his belt before embarking on the next phase of his career.
