Manchester United fans were far from pleased with their club’s performance vs Sevilla in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Supporters were excited to welcome Europe’s elite competition back but were disappointed to see a lacklustre display from the players.
Away from home, United could only crawl to a goalless draw that sets up the return fixture at Old Trafford to be the one full of drama.
However, Jose Mourinho’s men will have to be careful not to conceded at home as a goalscoring draw would knock them out of the competition entirely.
While the Red Devils weren’t expected to go to the latter stages, many expected them to, at the very least, defeat the Spanish side.
Watching United that half was like watching a Transformers film. You try and keep an open mind but you know it's going to be crap. And it was crap. #mufc

United may well get through to CL QF but they feel like a team going backwards not forwards at the moment. There’s just not a great deal to like. It’s joyless football. It’s not ultra defensive, it’s just a strange sort of inertia, a nothingness. Just all very underwhelming #mufc

This is a #MUFC performance from the depths of the Van Gaal era; turgid football, and only De Gea saving them from defeat

I feel like every team plays good football except us.

No away goal. Pathetically boring and defensive draw. A score draw at home and United are knocked out… #mufc

Manchester United fans didn’t lose the match entirely largely thanks to star goalkeeper David de Gea who managed to superbly keep out a point blank header from the opposition.
Romelu Lukaku had his own clear cut chance of the match before half time as well but failed to convert in what could’ve potentially given his side a lead heading ahead of the next leg.
An away goal would’ve been priceless as it’s unlikely Sevilla would be able to score twice against Mourinho’s compact team but it would’ve been an undeserved result as well.
United lacked creativity despite Paul Pogba’s presence on the pitch in his preferred 4-3-3 formation as the players didn’t show any real urgency to win the match.
Some fans have blamed Jose for the performance but it appears unlikely that was his intentions as all three of his substitutions in Pogba, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were to attempt to win the game.
