Owen Hargreaves claims there’s an agenda against Paul Pogba in the media after criticism of Manchester United man

An agenda against Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba exists in English football currently, according to former-Red Owen Hargreaves.

The Frenchman has been one of Man United’s best performers of the season, but has had a couple of poor performances that have betrayed his fantastic quality.

Hargreaves claims Pogba gets far more criticism than he deserves and that his start of the season was wonderful. Now a pundit on BT Sport and the BBC, Hargreaves suggested that issues and criticism of Pogba began after a woeful display against Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-0 defeat at Wembley Stadium, where he was hooked off by Jose Mourinho in the second half.

“There’s definitely an agenda up with Paul Pogba. I’m not sure why. I think he’s a terrific football player,” Hargreaves told BBC Radio 5Live.

“I thought he started the season absolutely exceptionally and everything really started at that game against Tottenham where Manchester United were thoroughly outplayed and that’s where the issues have come in.

“But if you’re going to criticise Pogba for playing in a midfield two against a Spurs team at Wembley where they will dominate possession, obviously he didn’t affect the game.

“In the last five games, he hasn’t played to the level that he is capable of but a lot of that I think is he’s not probably playing in a position that he did with Juventus.”

Since that game against Spurs, there have been suggestions of a dispute between Pogba and manager Jose Mourinho, with disagreements over the player’s best position.

“The agenda is everybody speaks about his price-tag, his social media and his haircuts,” Hargreaves said, “but actually he’s a brilliant football player, he’s a great team-mate and he’s a lovely kid.

“Now they’ve created this perception and it’s not getting better, it’s getting worse, and they need to sort this out because they need to come together.

“He’s at the perfect football club for him and they need to trust him by putting him in a position to succeed like he did at Juventus.”

Pogba could be one of the finest midfielders in world football. But things do need to change at United, about where he plays, what his role is and Pogba’s performances himself.
