Dwight Yorke reveals moment he realised Marcus Rashford’s true talent

Dwight Yorke has revealed the moment where he realised the true potential of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

The former-Red spoke in-depth to Rashford in an interview with the club’s official website, and was full of praise for the youngster’s talent and mentality.

Rashford has been out of the team more often than not in the last two months after a poor run of form going into the festive period has resulted in him starting just two Premier League games since Boxing Day.

He’s still made an appearance off the bench in almost every game for manager Jose Mourinho, but his gametime has reduced significantly.

Yorke said Rashford’s instinct has impressed him.

“Strikers often say instinctive goals are better. You [Rashford] just let it happen, let it rip and when it goes in it’s magnificent,” Yorke said.

Though he’s played the majority of his games for the last two campaigns on the left flank, other than occasional chances in League Cup fixtures and when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was injured at the end of last season, Yorke has backed Rashford to end up playing in his natural centre-forward position.

“The instinct of being a centre-forward is important and that’s the position I’m sure you’ll end up in,” the ex-United man continued. “It all comes from the instinct of being in the position at the right time and anticipating the move.

“You seem to have the lot: I can see all of the types of goals you are scoring, which makes it even more impressive at this early stage of your career.

Revealing his own revelation moment about Rashford, Yorke said, “There was one magnificent goal from outside the box for England, when I thought ‘wow, we’ve got somebody here who can score goals and not just one type of goal’.

“It’s good to have that range. We all recognise the no.9 who just gets tap-ins, but you’ve got all of it and now you’ve added free-kicks to your repertoire as well, it’s even more impressive.”
