Manchester United star Paul Pogba has hailed his teammate Victor Lindelof, believing his colleague has had a very good season.
The Swede arrived in the summer from Benfica and according to Transfermarkt has made 23 appearances this season across all competitions for the club.
Jose Mourinho invested in his second centre-back signing in as many seasons as he’s been at United, indicating a clear need for improvement in defence.
Unfortunately Lindelof has struggled to adapt immediately and is instead being given a season to transition in a similar way Henrikh Mkhitaryan was last year.
Fans will be hoping that the defender’s future doesn’t end in a similar way to the Armenian’s but Pogba believes that won’t be the case.
According to the Daily Star, Paul said to Expressen: “His season has been very good. He shows the quality on the pitch, he has shown to the world and for all supporters what he can do.
“He is a very good player and we need him. He is a nice person off the pitch too, you must not forget that it is his first season.
“It’s never easy for the first year in England. He is a player who adapts very well. He is a quality player. He has been doing well.
“He has won big titles and played with big players already in Benfica, so he is not new to the football world.”
Victor’s performances in recent matches has seen him slowly take advantage of his teammates’ shortcomings as he bids to become a regular starter.
No fan truly questions Victor Lindelof’s ability but rather whether he can perform consistently to a high level as needed if one were to feature for the Red Devils.
Many supporters see the 23 year old as the club’s main future centre-back pairing alongside Bailly who was also brought in by Mourinho.
While some may wish it to happen sooner than later, it appears for now that it won’t be the case until Eric can prove his fitness issues are behind him.
