Former Manchester United man Gary Pallister claims that Jose Mourinho appears to be trusting Victor Lindelof more in recent games.
The Swede has come in to the side to form a partnership with Chris Smalling in the last few matches with the club’s remaining centre-backs injured.
However, Lindelof seems to be playing well enough to keep his place in the starting line-up given Eric Bailly’s return from injury.
Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are still out for the foreseeable future but most fans wish to see a partnership between the Argentine and the Ivorian until the former Benfica man adapts to his new surroundings.
Having played as a defender himself though Pallister believes Victor is a different type of centre-back and that Mourinho is trust him more and more as the games continue.
According to the Sport Review, Gary said to Sportingbet: “Mourinho is trusting him [Lindelof] more and more, but he certainly looked unsettled at the beginning, which all players will do.
“He’s got better since he’s played more. It’s a shock coming here, so he’s learning and adapting. He’s not a barnstorming centre-back, he’s a ball-player and Victor had to adapt slightly.”
With five senior centre-backs competing for just two spots in the starting XI, many expect Jose to sell one or two to make way for better players.
Smalling and Jones appear to be the most disposable ones with the former coming in for heavy criticism recently and the latter enjoying the spotlight being taken off of him due to his recent injury.
Rojo has enjoyed an increased reputation and performances under Jose with many supporters expecting him to remain at the club beyond the summer.
Fans hope to see the partnership of Victor Lindelof and Eric form sooner rather than later but are happy to see Marcos fill in until then.
