Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Paul Pogba did train with the Manchester United squad for the latter part of their session on Monday but noted that he was not sure if he would recover to face Sevilla on Tuesday night.
The Frenchman missed Man United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool after suffering a gash to his leg in training on the eve of the game.
He was not spotted at the open training session at Carrington earlier today, leading many to believe he would not feature against Sevilla.
But Mourinho has confirmed at a press conference that Pogba did train for a part of the session, only to express doubts over whether he would play against the La Liga side.
A gash to the leg is hardly the worst affliction and will not keep Pogba out for too long, but you get the feeling that Mourinho isn’t prepared to take a risk over him – especially following Scott McTominay‘s impressive performance on the weekend and Marouane Fellaini‘s return to action.
United’s performance against Liverpool worked without Pogba because Mourinho employed a low block with two holding midfielders, with the emphasis more on the visitors to attack.
On Tuesday, however, his team will need to bring the fight to Sevilla, and you can only hope they have what it takes to dominate the midfield battle without their star man.
