Paul Scholes calls on Jose Mourinho to drop Alexis Sanchez following Sevilla defeat

Paul Scholes has called on Jose Mourinho to leave out Alexis Sanchez for Manchester United’s clash with Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend following another dire performance during the defeat to Sevilla.

Jose Mourinho’s men begun the game tentatively, showing hardly any attacking ambition until Yassim Ben Yedder’s quick brace effectively killed their hopes of progressing on what was a painfully frustrating night at Old Trafford.

And at the heart of that was Sanchez, who offered plenty of energy as usual but, once again, failed to impose himself on the final third.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Scholes had clearly had enough of the Chilean’s ponderousness in the final third.

Sanchez is now ten games into his Man United career and, although players do need time to acclimatise, you could hardly claim that he looks any closer to being part of the tactical woodwork than he was against Yeovil Town.

He is not, and has never really been, a runner on the ball – a Marcus Rashford type. What he does instead is produce moments of brilliance by finding space and taking a chance. He struggled to do the former and, really, has not done the latter at all.

The Chilean is still discovering his identity at this club, it seems, and on a night where United needed an experienced head to stand up going forward it cost them dearly.
