David de Gea’s future at Man United uncertain after complaints that other star players are paid more

David de Gea’s future at Manchester United is now uncertain again after complaints from his camp regarding his contract status.

The Reds have reportedly been targeting a new deal for the Spaniard for the last couple of months, but the Independent suggest that representatives of De Gea are unhappy that their client is not being given the same status as Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.

Man United fans will be keen to tie down De Gea immediately, and it would seem very odd if Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward were not willing to offer the goalkeeper similar wages to those being earned by star outfield players Pogba and Alexis.

Most would agree that De Gea has been far more important for United this season, and for the last three or four campaigns, than Pogba, and certainly Alexis.

European Champions Real Madrid have been perrenially interested in taking De Gea back to his home city to play at the Santiago Bernabeu. They came infamously close in 2015, and will likely consider swooping again this summer after a poor league season that has seen rivals FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid lead them by a considerable distance in La Liga.

Club President Florentino Perez is likely to seek a number of huge signings to get Los Blancos back on track, and De Gea could be one of them. United have to ensure his future at Old Trafford is secured quickly then.

He currently has just over a year left on his deal, which expires in the summer of 2018, though United do have a one-year contract extension clause which they are able to trigger. The rush is acute, but United have to make sure they do not create a situation where De Gea is questioning his future in Manchester.
