Jesse Lingard “angry” and “sad” following Manchester United’s defeat to Sevilla

Jesse Lingard has expressed his disappointment and called on supporters to get behind their side following Manchester United’s defeat to Sevilla on Tuesday night.

Jose Mourinho’s men, in what was the biggest game of their season, fluffed their lines in every sense against the La Liga side and were punished for their blunt-edged attacking approach by two Wassim Ben Yedder goals.

The reaction from supporters has been one of sheer fury and disappointment, especially following Mourinho’s aggravating comments in the aftermath.

And Lingard has taken to social media in order to shed light on the emotions running through the dressing room following such a galling set-back.

Talk of ‘bouncing back’ is all well and good, but you sense supporters will have a difficult time seeing beating Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday as adequate retribution for Tuesday.

However you frame it, United had a chance to send a message to the rest of Europe – to show the world that progress had been made in terms of the side’s mentality since Wolfsburg in 2015 – and failed miserably.

Even if Mourinho’s men go on to claim the FA Cup and finish second, winning every game in the process, that night where United’s European dream fell apart will nonetheless serve as an indelible black spot on their campaign.
