Manchester United considering straight swap deal involving Paul Pogba and Marco Verratti – report

Manchester United have entertained the prospect of swapping Paul Pogba for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Marco Verratti if the Frenchman’s relationship with Jose Mourinho worsens, according to reports.

The relationship between the pair is thought to have soured over a difficult February month during which Pogba was taken off during defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

And while the situation has calmed down over the last few weeks following wins over Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Liverpool, contingency plans have been devised in case a future impasse emerges.

According to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, one of those plans entails a swap deal with Verratti, who shares the same agent as Pogba and has made noises about a potential move away last year.

It should be emphasised that this is only a contingency plan – kind of like how every government has an emergency contingency plan for a worldwide nuclear outbreak. You’d be silly not to have one, wouldn’t you?.

The report stresses that United consider this possibility to be some way off. Despite Pogba’s recent struggles, it is roundly believed that the 24-year-old will be a vital player for the club in the future, and supporters will just hope he remains injury free – and in the starting XI – for the rest of the campaign.
