Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic reveals there are no plans to retire from football yet

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has refused to give an update on his future at Manchester United after recovering from an injury set back.

The Swede was ruled out for the first half of the season following serious knee ligament damage suffered in April 2017 in a IEFA Europa League clash with Anderlecht.

He returned with speed, in late November, but never looked completely fit and has been out of action since Boxing Day’s 2-2 home draw with Burnley.

Ibrahimovic was seen in Man United training ahead of their UEFA Champions League tie against Sevilla that saw them crash out of the competition in woeful fashion. He wasn’t involved in the game.

“Speculation has been there all my life. It’s about focusing on the right things and doing the right things,” the 36-year-old said at a Samsung event.

“I still want to play. It’s nothing I can decide now [United future], but the idea is to keep playing.”

Ibrahimovic has been well replaced by Romelu Lukaku this season, the Belgian striker who signed for an initial £75m from Everton last summer.

The 24-year-old has netted a fantastic 24 goals already this campaign and has assisted seven, too. However, manager Jose Mourinho will be pleased to have the back-up option of Ibrahimovic.

The talismanic striker’s influence will have undoubtedly been missed in a relatively young dressing room that could do with an experienced senior player to guide them on the right track in what will be a difficult end to the season.

United have lost the league already to Manchester City, but could still prevent their rivals from winning the title against them by winning their next few games and the Manchester derby.

Mourinho’s men remain in the FA Cup and victory in that would be a necessary papering over of some cracks for the Reds. The Portuguese boss will hope Ibrahimovic can help, having guided United to EFL Cup glory last year with two goals in the final at Wembley.
