Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has praised Romelu Lukaku’s goalscoring record for the club so far following the win over Brighton.
Jose Mourinho’s men limped to a 2-0 win at Old Trafford with the Belgian on the scoresheet once more to continue his fine form.
The goal represented Lukaku’s 25th of the season across all competitions with their still being time left over in the season for him to add a couple more.
The former Everton man has been heavily criticised throughout the campaign but his goalscoring record cannot be ignored with him being amongst the best in the league.
Lingard has recognised his teammate’s ability and has praised Romelu for the qualities the striker bring to the team.
According to the club’s official website, Jesse said: “We know what he [Lukaku] possesses and he has that presence up front for us. He’s that lone man who holds the ball up well for us.
“For him to score that many goals at this time of the season is great.”
The powerful forward managed to grab the opener for the match, helping send his team into the FA Cup semi-finals as they bid for glory.
The FA Cup represents United’s only realistic trophy remaining to win with the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup all out of the question.
A second placed finish and an FA Cup win represent a decent second season for Mourinho who will certainly be gunning for the title next campaign.
The Red Devils failed to live up to their early season form and fell shockingly behind to their fierce rivals Manchester City.
For all of Jose’s players shortcomings, the rest of the league have also failed to put up any type of title challenge with Manchester United the best of a bad bunch.
