Jose Mourinho: I am delighted with Marcos Rojo’s Manchester United contract renewal

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted delight with Marcos Rojo following his contract renewal that was recently confirmed.

The Argentine’s future was still pretty much in the air despite most fans expecting him to remain at the club beyond the current season.

Rojo’s admirable campaign during Mourinho’s first season in charge saw him win over many United supporters as well as his own manager.

With both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones putting in questionable performances of late, many predicted that it would be either Englishman to leave and not the former Sporting man.

Marcos’ solid displays earned him a new contract but his place in the starting XI as a regular is till under threat.

According to the Sport Review, Jose said to the club’s official website: “Marcos has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of seasons, and has always shown great professionalism.

“Although his injury has kept him sidelined over these past few weeks, Marcos is working hard to return to full fitness.

“He is always ready to put his body on the line for this club and I am delighted he has signed a new contract.”

The investment in Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof always meant that one of United’s defenders were on their way out and this season was meant to define just who.

Most fans would jump at the chance of getting rid of Smalling following his horrible displays but also due to a mistake always being around the corner with him.

Jones has been attacked but supporters are willing to be a little more patient with him since he performed admirably last season alongside the aforementioned Marcos Rojo.

While the eventual partnership is meant to be Bailly and Lindelof, a mixture of settling issues and injury problems has meant that partnership is temporarily on hold.

Rojo as well as the other stars had an opportunity to prove their worth and it’s fair to say he’s the only one who’s done so.
