Manchester United target Bayern’s Jerome Boateng to solve defensive woes: report

Manchester United have reportedly targeted Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng in order to solve their defensive woes in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho’s side have one of the best defensive records in the league but it’s claimed that he’s still unhappy with their error proneness.

David de Gea‘s sensational form this season has meant that United’s defence has often looked better than it actually is and the Portuguese manager appears to believe so too.

Boateng would certainly represent a top signing but his fitness issues may be a concern, especially given how all of the club’s current defenders appear to struggle with injuries.

The German is said to be disposable by the Bundesliga giants due to the aforementioned reason with the club finally ready to let loose.

According to the Express, the Sun report that Jose is willing to bid for the £50m rated Jerome as he plans to revamp his defence in the summer.

Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly have all been injured at one point or the other this season with Victor Lindelof representing the only fit central defender.

With talk of the two Englishman being set to leave Old Trafford this summer, the Red Devils may just have room for another man in defence.

Bailly and Lindelof are meant to be the club’s future central defensive partnership but until that happens then Jerome Boateng can represent quite a decent option to smooth the transition.

The former Manchester City man has previously struggled to adjust to the Premier League and so he could represent a gamble.
