Jose Mourinho: I don’t understand why Manchester United fans are frustrated

Jose Mourinho has noted that he does not understand why some Manchester United supporters have grown frustrated with his managerial approach.

The 55-year-old’s negative tactics over 180 minutes against Sevilla, who deservedly knocked Man United out of the Champions League, followed by his comments in the aftermath has turned a number of supporters against him.

His handling of Luke Shaw following last weekend’s win over Brighton and Hove Albion, for example, has worried most supporters.

Speaking in an interview at a Hublot event, where he met with Usain Bolt and Diego Maradona, Mourinho claimed that he understood supporters being upset following the Sevilla defeat but nothing more than that.

The boss clearly takes exception to the demands of supporters and furious reaction from them following the nightmare against Sevilla.

And if you think he lives outside the loop of what has been happening on social media, think again: this man is a professional narcissist and has imbibed the feeling of supporters, hitting back with just as much force and toxicity in the following press conferences.

But who is more justified in their anger? Those two legs against Sevilla were nothing short of criminal from a club of United’s stature and, above anything, a clear indicator that the boss needs to give his players more freedom on the pitch.

At the same time, it was one result. One game cannot be allowed to flip the entire narrative of a nine month campaign, which was, it ought to be noted, largely being treated as decent progress – without deserving to be called success – before Sevilla given United’s standing in the table and place in the FA Cup semi-final. Spirits were high following wins over Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Liverpool, we shouldn’t forget.

One thing is for certain: this squabbling between supporters and efforts from the media to play on this discontent with conveniently timed negative stories is becoming tedious.
