Alan Shearer has claimed that Manchester United knew exactly what they were getting by signing Jose Mourinho after Louis Van Gaal‘s era ended.
The Portuguese manager was signed for free after Chelsea sacked him for failing to build on their title winning season.
United fans held reservations on Mourinho due to his infamous reputation for not developing academy products as well as his tendency to have fall-outs with the clubs he joins.
While Jose has seemingly picked fights with the players, he hasn’t misbehaved with the board or caused any trouble in general but Shearer believes his trophy haul makes up for it all.
According to the Express, Alan said to Coral: “United knew what they were getting when they hired Mourinho. It’s not as if it’s the first time he has sat down and told the press what he has delivered in his career.
“Nobody can argue with that. He’s delivered two trophies last season and he could deliver another this season. I like him.
“You know when you hire him, you’re going to win trophies. There may be rows along the way but he certainly delivers trophies.”
In his first season in charge Jose Mourinho won the Carabao Cup, Europa League and season opener Community Shield.
This set him up well for higher expectations in his second season and the Red Devils’ bright start meant most fans expected a title challenge.
Mourinho’s men went head to head with fierce rivals Manchester City for a couple of weeks but soon fell behind before being knocked out of the Carabao Cup and Champions League.
They could potentially end the season in second and with the FA Cup in hand which would be considered a decent season but one that would’ve failed to live up to it’s initial hype.
