From Spain: AC Milan ready to launch €36m bid for Ander Herrera

AC Milan are preparing a bid worth €36m to lure Ander Herrera to the San Siro over the summer, according to reports from Spain.

The Spaniard, whose contract expires in the summer of 2019, has been limited to just eight Premier League starts this season.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly told the midfielder that, while the club won’t officially put him up for sale, he will be free to find a new club if he wishes.

And according to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, the the Rossoneri are prepared to table a €36m bid to prize Herrera away from Old Trafford over the transfer window.

Michael Carrick‘s retirement and Marouane Fellaini‘s more-than-likely departure in the summer would, you imagine, render the prospect of Herrera leaving simply untenable.

Mourinho has noted himself that midfield will be revamped this summer but the question of just how many targets the club has listed remains a mystery. But the very fact that Herrera’s name has been associated with a move away suggests that the 55-year-old is aiming to add more than just one midfielder to the ranks.

The likes of Jean Michel Seri and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic satisfy Mourinho’s need for a propulsive, box-to-box midfielder to compliment Paul Pogba’s forward thinking approach and Nemanja Matic’s firmness at the base of midfield. This, you sense, will be the main priority.

But perhaps Mourinho, having seen Matic produce the occasional fatigued performance this year, will also look to sign someone who can share the load with the Serbian slightly further back. Napoli’s Jorginho, whose agent travelled to Manchester last week, seems to be the primary target in that department.
