Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam as they bid to revamp their defence ahead of next season.
Jose Mourinho has publicly criticised Luke Shaw, sparking a tonne of rumours linking the club with just about every left-back there is in Europe.
However, there may be some genuine truth in the report linking Ghoulam to United as the need to sort out their backline is real.
Mourinho has already insisted he’s happy with his attackers and will focus solely on the midfield and defence this summer transfer window.
The midfield is only being looked into due to Michael Carrick‘s retirement while the defence is simply in need of quality.
According to the Faithful MUFC, Il Mattino Football Italia report that the Red Devils are monitoring Faouzi and are considering bidding for him since he has a £31m release clause.
Shaw certainly appears on his way out of the club with Chelsea and Tottenham lining up to make bids for him should they be given the green light.
The Englishman has struggled since coming to Old Trafford and hasn’t put in a single season’s worth of top performances.
Having been constantly given the benefit of the doubt, it appears that Jose is finally sick of Luke and is keen on replacing him with the Napoli full-back.
Faouzi Ghoulam represents a reasonably priced transfer and appears to be the type of player the Portuguese manager would be interested in.
Capable of defending and whipping in a mean cross, the Algerian would definitely add quality in a desperately needed part of the pitch.
