From Spain: Jose Mourinho has “convinced” Gareth Bale to join Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has convinced Gareth Bale to swap Real Madrid for Manchester United in the summer following another difficult campaign under Zinedine Zidane, according to reports from Spain.

The Portuguese established interest in Bale last summer but decided against making an official bid after Zinedine Zidane started him in the UEFA Super Cup and insisted he was part of Real’s plans for the season.

But Bale has endured another injury-hit campaign and it is roundly believed that the winger will depart the Bernabeu over the transfer window.

And according to Spanish media outlet SPORT, Bale is keen on a move back to the Premier League and Mourinho has convinced him to choose Old Trafford as his next destination.

Bale does feel like more of a Mourinho player than Anthony Martial but to make that deal – thereby dispensing with one of the finest young talents in the modern game – would be nothing short of criminal.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man is a player capable of taking on a talismanic role alongside plundering goals and assists, but his injury record and age outweigh any potential benefits.

United have made a number of signings like Bale in recent years – internationally known and proven on the big stage – and they haven’t worked. Surely exercising patience and faith in players of Martial’s calibre is a better way to go.
