Garth Crooks: Jesse Lingard has bulldozed his way into Manchester United’s starting line-up

Garth Crooks has claimed that Jesse Lingard has bulldozed his way into Manchester United’s starting line-up due to his recent performances.

It’s been a good few weeks for the Englishman who grabbed the headlines with his performances in the recent international break.

Lingard’s displays saw him finally gain some attention and appreciation for his talents that none really knew of other than United’s own fans.

The academy product has had his breakthrough season in the sense of him actually staking a regular claim in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI.

Crooks believes that the Portuguese manager was forced into selecting Jesse as it became too difficult to ignore his consistent form.

According to Caught Offside, Garth said: “This lad has to be in England’s starting XI for the World Cup on current form. Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has tried to use Lingard sparingly this season but failed.

“All credit to this young player, he has not only bulldozed his way into United’s starting line-up but he’s currently running the show. Lingard was involved in all of United’s goals against Swansea while displaying a range of passes in his repertoire.

“Could Gareth Southgate play both Lingard and Dele Alli in the same England team? Or is it too much like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard? Nice thought though.”

Jesse Lingard has been the late developer that Sir Alex Ferguson predicted he would be but he’s certainly making the most of whatever minutes come his way.

Mourinho has been happy to utilise the player whenever he was in form and his purple patch during the winter months saw him win his manager over.

Even the Red Devils’ fans who doubted him no longer hold onto the same skepticism while England fans now recognise what an intelligent player he is.

In many ways this season is Lingard’s season and he’s taken advantage of pundits or fans mistaking him for a youngster despite him being 25 years of age.

Manchester United are certainly delighted that he’s entered his peak years and finally proving his ability in the first team in his preferred position as a number ten.
