Jose Mourinho: Carlos Carvalhal should be the Premier League manager of the season

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has surprised many by claiming that Swansea’s Carlos Carvalhal should be voted the Premier League’s manager of the season.

The former Chelsea boss has a claim to that title himself given his improvement with his club, taking them from sixth place last season to second.

However, it’s likely that Pep Guardiola will win it given how his Manchester City team are set to be announced the winners any week now.

Liverpool fans would also claim that Jurgen Klopp deserves to be involved in the debate with Mohamed Salah single handedly dragging them to the Champions League spots.

Mourinho though has turned the focus to the relegation candidates who have had their season turned around by Carvalhal.

According to talkSport, Jose said: “This guy [Carvalhal] is going to keep Swansea in the Premier League. He is the manager of the season, because they were dead and he is going to save them.”

Most people would perhaps think that the former Real Madrid manager would claim the prize for himself but he’s rather humbly pointed to a fellow colleague.

Other skeptics claim that it’s just Jose Mourinho’s way of taking a dig at Guardiola who many believe is the clear candidate.

Either way it’s tough to argue against Carlos’ case despite his side’s limp performance vs United on Saturday where a dire first half saw the home side win 2-0.

Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez were on the scoresheet and perhaps others should’ve also extended the scoreline before the break.

In the second half the Swans came alive but the Red Devils did enough to keep them at an arm’s length and hold onto the result.
