Jose Mourinho: Romelu Lukaku is an important player for my Manchester United team

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was in full praise of Romelu Lukaku after he won the club’s March player of the month award.

The Belgian international was in fine form for his club for the majority of this season but particularly in the last month with crucial wins over Chelsea and Liverpool.

Lukaku’s goalscoring record stands at over 20 goals in all competitions with him looking set to even break the 30 goal barrier in his first season at the club.

It’s fair to say the former Everton man is meeting all the initial expectations of him and has truly turned into United’s top goalscorer.

With Romelu set to face off against Manchester City tomorrow afternoon, fans will be hoping he can put in yet another impressive display.

Mourinho’s love for a powerful striker is nothing new with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Didier Drogba prime examples of his preference.

Both of those players were also key players’ for their sides as well as their former manager and so the trend continues with Romelu Lukaku.

For Jose’s tactics everything begins with the striker, particularly since he likes to play counter-attacking direct football.

Lukaku’s task is a long list of jobs from holding the ball up and linking up play to pure goalscoring, there’s a lot that’s asked from him.

He’s certainly carried out everything that’s asked of him of late and is truly developing into a complete centre-forward.

With Romelu still relatively young there’s plenty of time for him to carve himself a piece into Manchester United’s history.
