Pep Guardiola: Manchester United’s Paul Pogba was offered to me in January

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed that Manchester United’s Paul Pogba was offered to him in the January transfer window.

The extraordinary remark comes ahead of the Manchester derby later this afternoon where Jose Mourinho’s rivals could potentially win the title.

City need all three points to be crowned as champions and the Portuguese manager is certainly going to try all he can to stop that from happening.

Guardiola’s remarks are perhaps an attempt to shake up the United players, targeting Pogba in particular and fans will see if it becomes a factor in the match.

The Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola apparently offered his client out to the club’s fierce rivals and the Sky Blues manager explained why he turned it down in bizarre fashion.

According to 101 Great Goals, Pep said: “But, two months ago he [Raiola] offered me Mkhitaryan and Pogba to play with us. Why?

“Why he offer? He was interested in Mkhitaryan and Pogba to play with us? So I’m like a guy, so he has to protect his players and he has to know so he cannot bring the players to a guy like me, like a dog.

“And comparing a dog is bad. It’s not good. He has to respect the dogs. I said no. We don’t have the money enough to buy Pogba because he is so expensive.”

Agents are in no way managed by the clubs’ their clients play for and as such are allowed to say or do whatever they like without consequence.

It could be that Raiola’s intentions had nothing to do with Paul’s own feelings towards Jose Mourinho or Manchester United for that matter.

While displeasing to hear, as mentioned previously it could easily just be Pep Guardiola’s way of trying to get in the players’ heads before the match.

If what he says is true then it’s strange to wait until a couple months later to reveal what happened and especially in a pre-match press conference.

Interestingly enough Mourinho stayed away from any mind games in his own press conference where he didn’t appear to be in a chatty mood.
