Ander Herrera: Nobody should ever underestimate Manchester United

by Leo Nieboer

Ander Herrera gave an impassioned interview following Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Manchester City during which he warned that nobody should ever underestimate Jose Mourinho’s side.

The Spaniard was one of the only solid performers in a tumultuous first half that saw the visitors fall two goals behind.

And he was a fundamental influence in a dominant second half for Man United, furiously tearing across the pitch and continuously winning the ball off blue shirts.

Speaking after the game, Herrera spoke from the heart, once again showing the fighting attitude that had been so central to steering the game in United’s favour, before Nemanja Matic interrupted him for a quick selfie.

Herrera has endured a difficult season, plagued by injury problems and often left out in favour of a two man midfield, but there aren’t many United players who get the club – who you sense really cherish and fight for the badge every single day – like the Spaniard.

And he put in a vintage display at the Ethiad: full of unbridled energy and fight, cleverly stamping out City’s momentum and helping to set a platform for Paul Pogba to dominate, stretching every sinew from start to finish. It was an afternoon where the midfielder’s tenacity, along with the balance of Matic and splendid innovation of Pogba, combined to create the ideal midfield dynamic.
