Alexis Sanchez played a central role in Manchester United’s comeback win over Manchester City with a spellbinding second half display.
The Chilean was an anonymous figure in the first half, isolated on the left hand side and miles away from Man City’s box.
But he was a different man in the second half, making a dazzling burst in the lead-up to Paul Pogba’s goal before providing two pinpoint assists – both floating crosses from the left hand side – to draw United level and then put them into the lead.
Here is a video compilation of the 29-year-old’s decisive second half performance at the Ethiad.
Whatever Mourinho said to Sanchez at half time, it worked perfectly.
Out of nowhere, the Chilean was picking up all the right positions, picking up the ball off the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, turning and twisting with intent, suddenly looking part of the fabric of the tram rather than an individual unsure of his purpose on the pitch.
That run past Nicolas Otamendi, combined with those two beautiful lofted balls, serves as evidence that this is indeed a player with remarkable quality – somebody who, as the last two games will attest, can only improve with more time in the team.
