Shay Given: When Alexis Sanchez and Manchester United click, they will be fantastic

Shay Given has excitedly predicted that when Alexis Sanchez as well as his teammates click, Manchester United will be fantastic.

In what will surely be music to the fans ears, there’s certainly truth to his words with many pundits claiming the players haven’t gelled yet.

It’s fair to say there’s been a large turnover of players at United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired with David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho all trying to build their own squads in around a five year period.

The Portuguese manager is the latest one to attempt to shape the squad in his own image and while he’s brought in a few players, he’s yet to see a team that’s completely his.

Given believes that once the squad becomes a team rather than a group of individuals then the Red Devils will be absolutely fantastic.

According to the Sport Review, Shay said to Tag Heuer: “Well it’s difficult because he [Sanchez] plays on the left and then people say does that sort of stop Rashford and Martial developing as well.

“So, the thing about Sanchez is that he is that good player that he could play on the right, he plays the number ten behind the striker, he can play anywhere on the pitch. He is that good.

“It’s just how do you get the best of him; how do you get the best of the team. There is a lot of pieces of the jigsaw that needs to be put together and at the minute they’re just not that complete team yet but I think when they do hit it off I think they’ll be fantastic.”

The Sanchez debate has been going on for some time now particularly since Mourinho has been seen to shift the player around in different positions in order to get the best out of him.

There’s no doubt the former Real Madrid manager absolutely loves versatile players and brought the Chilean in for that specific reason.

Just like all players though there’s always a preference in what role Alexis can carry out best as well as his own favourite position.

That’s said to be the left wing and while that throws Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial‘s futures into doubt, it appears to be for the most part true.
