Manchester United’s Ander Herrera has opened up about his relationship with Jose Mourinho and has insisted their relationship is very good.
The pair haven’t had a public spat or even have been rumoured or reported to but the Spaniard’s lack of match time has seen him linked with AC Milan.
Herrera was United’s player of the season last year but has failed to replicate the same kind of form due to injury problems.
Mourinho hasn’t outwardly stated any problems with his player but following last season’s campaign still went out to buy Nemanja Matic last year.
The Red Devils midfielders have struggled to break into the side due to the Serbian’s performances but the former Atletico Bilbao star insists everything is fine.
According to Red Rants, Ander said: “It’s [relationship with Jose] very good. Mourinho backs you up if you give it your all and that’s how I understand football. In the personal treatment he is a direct and frontal person.
“He has no problems in telling you what he thinks. He never goes behind the back. One of the things that I value most about Mourinho is that he doesn’t care what they say about him.
“It is a brutal quality because the human being tends to be affected by what they say and, instead, apparently not.”
Ander Herrera clearly has an admiration for his manager and his club but whether it’s enough to keep him at Old Trafford is yet to be seen.
A single year is left on his contract and there’s talk he could potentially leave for free as some European clubs continue to circle him.
Herrera has revealed that talks have begun between himself and the club but that nothing has been decided, meaning there’s no certainty over his stay.
The tenacious midfielder also stated that he plans to remain committed to the time left on his contract but admitted his future was up in the air.
Ander’s departure would free up some space for Jose to add some depth to his midfield with a creative player perhaps the priority.
