Manchester United’s David de Gea and Marcus Rashford on PFA’s award shortlist

Manchester United stars David de Gea and Marcus Rashford have been shortlisted for the Press Footballers’ Association’s awards of the season.

The Spaniard is on the shortlist for the older age group while the Englishman is on the youngster’s list with Manchester City’s stars dominating both departments.

De Gea has been widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world and is certainly one of United’s better players of the season.

Rashford meanwhile has been consistently trusted by Jose Mourinho to deliver and he’s got himself 12 goals and six assists across all competitions.

Many expect City’s players to win the awards considering their team is likely to secure the title soon but there’s no outright rule for the decision.

It’s always tough for goalkeepers to win these awards and while David makes a good case for it, he’s likely to lose out to a goalscorer.

Marcus certainly has a chance to win the younger category but faces stern competition with the likes of Harry Kane, Ryan Sessegnon, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Ederson.

There have been question marks over the Tottenham man’s involvement in both age groups particularly since he will soon turn 25.

Either way there may be some other Red Devil players who are wondering why they were left out such as Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.

The left winger has very similar stats to Marcus Rashford but hasn’t been name while Lingard has arguably performed better than both though it’s certainly the Belgian star who is the biggest candidate from the side to miss out.
