Marcus Rashford delighted to reach third major final in two seasons

Marcus Rashford noted following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur that he needed to pinch himself after reaching three domestic finals at the age of just 20.

Jose Mourinho’s men recovered brilliantly from an early Dele Alli goal to draw level through Alexis Sanchez before Ander Herrera crowned a dominant second half performance with the winning goal.

The result means United reach their third major final under Mourinho and their second FA Cup final of the post-Fergie era.

And Rashford took to Twitter to share his amazement at reaching yet another final.

Rashford is the same age as me – a student who doesn’t know how to poach an egg, or even read a map – and has reached a total of four major finals. Only a handful of players have managed that at the age of 20. Most players who grace the top level don’t even manage to play in one. Some players – some people – are just destined for success, and Rashford is one of them.

And so is Mourinho. He has copped criticism throughout the season but when the heat was on, the eyes of the footballing world waiting for him to lose, the Special One delivered.

Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola may all play nicer football, but nobody can match the inbuilt resilience – that knack for performing scalps – Mourinho has wired into his system.
