Manchester United’s Scott McTominay has revealed the advice Jose Mourinho passed onto him in a bid to help him settle into the first team.
The youngster has been involved this season far more than he would’ve predicted after having gone on a pre-season tour last summer.
McTominay’s performances have even seen him receive a call up to the Scotland senior international squad with England having said to have chased him too.
Mourinho clearly trusts the academy product and expects big things for him having played him in some crucial matches for United.
The club’s midfield injuries also worked in the Scotsman’s favour but he put in the type of performances that helped him remain involved with the first team.
According to the club’s official website, Scott said: “When I first came into the group he [Mourinho] said ‘the players have to like you’ and it’s one of the most important things going into a new dressing room, that you are a likeable person and you get on with everybody.
“That has stood me in good stead. It’s important to be liked and on the pitch. It’s the manager having the faith to play me that’s been incredible and I can’t thank him enough.”
Pretty simple advice from Jose Mourinho though it seems to have worked with Scott McTominay making an impact whenever he’s played.
Michael Carrick and Nemanja Matic have also hailed the young midfielder and it’s clear to see he’s settled in rather quickly.
The return to fitness of some of Manchester United’s players has seen McTominay drop back down the pecking order but there’s plenty of time for him to continue developing and he could very well carve himself a piece out of the club’s history.
