Jose Mourinho considering Nemanja Matic and David de Gea for captaincy: report

by Marwan Harraz

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering between Nemanja Matic and David de Gea as candidates for the captaincy.

Michael Carrick is the club’s official captain this season though has missed out on the opportunity to lead the team out of the tunnel due to his injury issues.

Antonio Valencia has been the usual suspect in wearing the captain’s armband but it’s also been rotated with De Gea, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Paul Pogba all getting opportunities too.

Carrick’s absence and leadership have surely been missed by United this season though he has returned from his injury fairly recently.

Matic has been a mainstay in the starting XI this season and is one of the club’s more experienced players which makes sense why he’s being considered.

According to Metro, Jose is considering Nemanja and David as the candidates to replace Michael as captain when he retires in the summer.

Giving the Spaniard the captaincy may just be tempting enough for the player to keep Real Madrid at arms length once more as reports of an incoming bid continues to grow again.

Nemanja Matic also represents a decent option though he hasn’t spent much time at the club in order to receive that honour.
