Manchester United star David de Gea has reacted to winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award by claiming it’s amazing to be a part of the club.
The Spaniard has been at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson brought him in ahead of the 2011/12 edition of the Premier League.
After initially experiencing a difficult start, De Gea is now widely recognised as one of the best goalkeepers in the world if not the best.
United fans have been desperate to hold onto the former Atletico Madrid man for as long as possible but if his recent comments are anything to go by then it appears he’s here to stay.
The club were hosting the awards for their personal ceremony yesterday evening and it’s there that he was honoured with his fourth Sir Matt Busby award.
According to the club’s official website, David said: “It’s difficult to say with words what Manchester United means for me. For anyone. It’s amazing to play for this club, with the history of this club, for the fans, for everything.
“It’s amazing to be part of this club. It was a bit hard at the beginning but I believed in myself and I work hard and train hard and, until now, I am proud of myself too.
“Of course, I want to say thanks to everyone. I didn’t expect to win one but now I have won it four times so it’s amazing for me. Thank you.”
Real Madrid’s reignited interest in David de Gea worried supporters temporarily but Jose Mourinho reassured them by claiming there’s no chance the player will leave the club.
The Portuguese manager has made it clear that if Manchester United want to dominate the footballing world once more than they must hold onto their best players which the goalkeeper is certainly one of.
