Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that his player of the season is Scott McTominay though he admitted Nemanja Matic narrowly missed out.
The Portuguese manager was given an opportunity during last night’s club award ceremony to recognise who he felt was the club’s best player for the campaign.
McTominay was surprisingly selected though it’s not to say he hasn’t deserved it in his breakthrough season for United.
The Scotsman has risen through the ranks almost as quickly as Marcus Rashford did and has impressed his manager thoroughly.
Mourinho has continuously praised Scott throughout the season and did not hold back last night either, crowning him as the Player of the Season.
According to the club’s official website, Jose said: “The meaning is important, I think the dream of every boy that arrives at the club is to play for the first team.
“When the dream becomes true, the next dream is to play in big matches and to play in the Champions League and eventually to play for the national team.
“This player gives everything, in five or six months, so my Player of the Year has to be Scott McTominay.”
Some fans, as much as they were happy to see an academy graduate, initially doubted Scott McTominay when he featured for Manchester United.
Their concerns were perhaps what Jose Mourinho loves so much of the midfielder- that he played a little too simple and wasn’t a risk taker.
Though those doubts were initially justifiable it eventually proved to be the mark of a player who’s trying to grow in confidence before showing his true talents.
McTominay eventually started to prove, one he was settled, that he’s capable of passing well, tackling well and being the disciplinarian Mourinho loves so much.
