Jose Mourinho tells Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind they can leave: report

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly told Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind they’re free to leave following rumours he’s ready to revamp his defence in the summer.

Despite having one of the best defensive records in the league, the Portuguese manager is said to be unhappy with his defenders this season.

Mourinho has recognised that it’s David de Gea who almost singlehandedly bails out United’s defenders constantly and that without any protection they are often exposed.

The defensive lapses have seen the club linked with the likes of Juventus’ Alex Sandro, Tottenham’s Toby Alderwiereld and Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti.

Both Darmian and Blind don’t appear to have a long term future at the club and so it makes sense that Jose would invest in other options in the summer.

According to Give Me Sport, the Times report that Jose has told Daley and Matteo they’re free to leave as they’re deemed surplus to requirements.

The Italian defender appears to be on the brink of securing a move to Juventus though nothing official has been confirmed as of yet.

The Dutchman meanwhile doesn’t appear to have any suitors though that’s unlikely to stop Jose Mourinho from offloading him in order to fund other targets.
