Jose Mourinho has refused to confirm whether Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku will recover in time for the FA Cup final on May.
Lukaku picked up an ankle injury during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal last week and has travelled to Belgium for treatment.
Sanchez was also not named in the match-day squad for Man United’s defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion with an unknown injury.
And Mourinho, speaking after the game, noted that he could only hope the pair would recover in time for the FA Cup final.
“I hope they can play in the final,” he said. “We have two matches and need four points.”
The general feeling is that Lukaku will recover in time for the clash with his former club, with some reports stating he would return for the final game of the season against Watford. Nobody is going to keep him away from a game of that magnitude.
Sanchez, on the other hand, serves as a more worrying prospect. He was a figurehead for United’s resilience in the FA Cup semi-final and supporters will hope he can inflict further Wembley damage against Antonio Conte’s men. Mourinho faces an anxious wait over the next two weeks.
