Former Manchester United keeper and current Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar has revealed that Mino Raiola is pushing his client Justin Kluivert towards a summer exit.
Kluivert, son of former Barcelona and Holland forward Patrick, has attracted the attention of top European clubs having impressed out wide for Ajax this term, making 36 appearances in all competitions.
The teenager has stressed that his short term ambition was to continue his development at Ajax but did admit he was tempted by a move to the Premier League at some point further down the line.
But according to Van der Sar, Kluivert is being pushed towards an exit this summer by Raiola, whose client list includes Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku and, of course, Mario Balotelli.
“We have been talking for 10 months now [about a renewal], and we are a bit done with it all now,” he said. “He is difficult to keep. His agent [Raiola] pushes him towards the exit, which is a shame.”
It has been likewise claimed by the Mail that Raiola – shock! – is playing hardball with Ajax over a new deal for the 19-year-old, demanding €1.5m (£1.32m) gross wages per year, a huge bump up on his current weekly earnings. The pair have also both demanded a 20 per cent cut from any future transfer fee.
Raiola’s message to Ajax, as it is with any club unfortunate enough to have to deal with him, will be that they ought to give him and his client what they want or they will simply find another club that will.
And while this could present the possibility of Kluivert being available, we should perhaps remember that Raiola, back in January, offered Paul Pogba to Manchester City. Sir Alex Ferguson called him a “s***bag” for a reason.
