Jose Mourinho reiterates admiration for Brazilian players ahead of summer transfer window

Jose Mourinho has once again expressed his admiration for Brazilian players ahead of the summer transfer window.

The boss interestingly stated last week that he always liked to accommodate Brazilian players in his team, citing the value of their unique intelligence and mobility on the pitch.

Man United have been linked with a series of Brazilians ahead of the summer: Juventus full-back Alex Sandro, Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred and AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho are all reported targets.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Mourinho expressed his admiration for the way Tite has set up his Brazil team ahead of the World Cup.

“Portugal has an interesting squad,” he said.

“Without Cristiano, it would be impossible. But with him nothing is impossible. I believe that the Argentinian national team without Lionel Messi wouldn’t be a contender. But with him, it is one of the favourites.

“I like very much the basic structure of Brasil, its tactics and mentality. There is a mixture between Brazilian natural talent, with a serious approach – physical, tactical.

“It is a team capable of defending well, allowing few goals, with a good support base. And then up front with Willian, Neymar, Coutinho and Jesus. All players with outstanding qualities.”

You cannot help but feel as if Mourinho is outlining a vision for how he wants his United team to look like next season: organised at the core, mixing physical prowess with tactical nous, an intuitive feel for the pulses of the game.

This has always been Mourinho all over. And there are no surprises that he sees a lot of what he likes in Tite’s well-drilled, efficient Brazil team.

He will want to add players who can, above all, maintain a certain level of energy throughout games but who can also make the right decisions when it comes to enforcing that quick transition from defence to attack. Brazilians, the curators of jogo bonito, have always been superb at this.
